Snow dusting the canyon walls and leaves changing colors set the scene for a fast race at the Glenwood Canyon Shuffle Race for Literacy on Saturday, October 5. With a blistering time of 1:16:37, Kevin Donoher of Grand Junction led the field of runners finishing first in the half marathon. Local runner Josh Hejtmanek finished second with a time of 1:18:32. Followed by another local running star, Candelario DeLuera, in third with a time of 1:32:10.
Another homegrown runner, Abbey Walter, led the women in the half marathon in a time of 1:33:39. Andrea Bauer placed second for the women and Rachel Fuller placed third.
Despite the weather earlier in the week, sunny skies prevailed at the finish. Recently relocated from Alabama, Caitlin Miner led the women in the 5K and came in second overall in a speedy time of 20:37. Local running standout Heidi Vosbeck placed second for the women and Laurel Lamont in third.
Not minding the cool temperature Brad Snyder finished first overall in the 5K in a time of 20:33. Not running his usual long distance race, former Literacy Outreach volunteer tutor and new father, Craig Burger finished second for the men. Brad Palmer finished third in the men’s division.
