Today is #COGivesDay. Today is a day to make a difference for our local adult learners at @LiteracyOut. Throughout Garfield County our generous volunteers are giving the gift of time. They are helping our adult learners learner basic skills such as reading a job application, reading their pay stub or a note from their child’s teacher. Many feel just like adult learner and poet, Earl Mills, in his poem “Diploma in Hand.”
…
Reached out for help-at first I failed.
Disheartened inside=who can I tell?
Somehow within, a planted seed,
A call for help-I’ve learned to read!
Diploma in hand, I lift it high.
No tears in my heart, no longer do I cry.”
Literacy is a gift that keeps giving. Please help us help those in need of basic literacy instruction.
